SAVANNAH BANANAS ANNOUNCE NEW FEATURE FOR GRAYSON STADIUM

SAVANNAH, GA. May 5, 2016 – The Savannah Bananas continue plans for their inaugural season at historic Grayson Stadium by investing in Grayson Stadium’s historical past. The team is unveiling the Grayson Stadium Walk of Fame, a concourse exhibit honoring the greatest baseball stars that have ever played at Grayson Stadium.

The Grayson Stadium Walk of Fame will be unveiled Opening Night June 2nd and  will honor six players.  The Bananas are launching a community poll to help select the six.  The voting begins today and will run until May 10th, when the team will announce the Walk of Fame Stars for 2016.  Fans can visit www.TheSavannahBananas.com to enter their suggestions.

The players will be honored with signage on the main concourse with bios, stats and information about their time at Grayson Stadium.

“Grayson Stadium is one of the most historic ballparks in the country,” said Owner Jesse Cole.  “We feel it is only fitting to honor the greats that have played here and celebrate the memories that these players have brought to the people of Savannah.”

Grayson Stadium was built in 1926 and has featured some of the most famous names in baseball.  Lou Gehrig played an exhibition game in 1927 while Babe Ruth came to Grayson Stadium in 1935 to play the local Georgia Teachers College.

Major League teams often traveled through Savannah for exhibition games and during the 1950’s. Hall of Famers including Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Stan Musial, Hank Aaron and Frank Robinson all played at Grayson.

Greats like Dale Murphy and Lou Brissie played entire seasons at Grayson Stadium and most recently stars like John Smoltz and Johann Santana came through Grayson on rehab assignments.

In addition to the baseball stars mentioned, fans will have the opportunity to write in other players that played at Grayson Stadium and deserve to be honored as well.

The Savannah Bananas introduced the five game plan this spring that includes tickets to the five biggest games of the year including Opening Night and all four fireworks shows.  All tickets include All You Can Eat Chicken Sandwiches, Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Popcorn, Dessert, Soda and Water for only $15 a ticket. For more information and to purchase the five game plans fans can visit www.TheSavannahBananas.com or call 912-712-2482.
