Bananas Split Doubleheader in Macon, Take 3-1 Breakfast Bowl Lead

Written by Biko Skalla:

The Bananas dropped a wild game one 9-8 and then pummeled the Bacon 12-1 in game two, to take a 3-1 lead overall in the second annual Breakfast Bowl.

Game one resumed with 2 outs in the bottom of the 4th and the Bacon up 3-1. Here’s my recap from last Friday of the first 3+ innings of action:

“The Bananas got their run in the second, which was kicked off with a single up the middle by Bill, I’m Not JUST Here to Flex, Pearson. Dalton, Please Checkout my Spotify, Mauldin, reached on a fielder’s choice and then moved up to second on a groundout from Kyle, Please Don’t Tell Bill I Have More Grayson Stadium Homers Than Him, Luigs. With 2-down, in his first swing of the Breakfast Bowl, Mike, You Should See Me in a Speedo and a Spray Tan, Vivasis, lined an RBI single to right-center to bring in the songbird  of our generation.
In 3.2 innings on the bump, Matt, Bet You Didn’t Think I’d be Nearly Untouchable in Game 3 of the CPL Championship, Malatesta, gave up 3 runs, just 1 of them earned, while striking out 7.”

Now for the action from tonight: Gavin, I Bet You Didn’t Attend Two Colleges at Once, Keipp-Stroud, threw one pitch in the 4th and got a ground ball right back to him. Gavin then got the first out in the 5th before the Bacon went walk, single, single, walk. Sean, The Exterminator, Fluke, came in and walked the first hitter, before giving up a bloop single and a bases clearing triple to right. Fluke then struck out the next two hitters to stop the bleeding, but when all was said and done 6 runs had come in and it was 9-1 Bacon.

The top of the 6th started with a Dakota, That Ball’s Gone in Bakersfield, McFadden, walk. D-Mac then swiped 2nd and Zak, “I Can’t Wear White Tape Cause it Blends in With My Skin,” Whalin, lined a single to left. Bill, I Mean Everybody’s Pooped Their Pants Before, Pearson, walked and then Dalton, Biko  is About to be Added to My Record Deal, Mauldin, crushed a 3-run homer to left-center. In his first at-bat as a Banana, Jamey, Can’t Believe All it Took Was Emailing Berry to Play Here, Smart, walked and then Malachi, Flash Bash the Kid, Mitchell, mashed a 2-run bomb to left to cut the Macon lead to 9-7.

Fluke got three straight groundouts in the bottom of the 6th to keep it a 2 run game. Joshua, Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Lavender, was plunked to start off the 7th. Zak smacked a double to right-center to bring home Lavy and cut the lead to 1. But the Bacon were able to strand Zak on 2nd and secure their first win of the Breakfast Bowl 9-8.

Game 2 started with a bang, as Bill, Gillum I Told You I Was a Leadoff Hitter, LeRoy, lifted a leadoff home run out to left. Kyle, I’ll Take This One Boys, Luigs, pitched a scoreless first with a couple strikeouts. Malachi dropped a bunt base hit perfectly down the 3rd base line and then Jacob, Finding Barrels is Just Like Riding a Bike, Teston, lined a single to right. Bill bounced a ball off the shin of the pitcher straight to the shortstop that brought in Malachi to make it 2-0 Nanner’s.

Then the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings happened. Oh boy did they happen. 26 Bananas came to the plate, and 10 scored. Here’s how it happened.

3rd inning: D-Mac walk, Smart RBI single, Whalin walk, Lavy walk, Teston RBI walk, LeRoy 2-run E-5. 6-0 Nanners.

4th inning: D-Mac single, Smart single, Whalin RBI single, EJ, I Don’t Need to Know What’s Coming, Churchich RBI single, Lavy HBP. 8-0 Nanners.

5th inning: LeRoy HBP, Mauldin walk, Smart HBP, Whalin RBI-HBP, Lavy HBP, Kevin, The Greatest Hitter in Bananas History, Hickey 2-RBI double, Teston walk, LeRoy fly out to center (hitting lefty). 12-0 Nanners.

The bottom of the 5th started with a triple from Coston, That’s a Breakfast Bowl Cycle, Anderson, and he scored on a throwing error from the relay man Dalton. That would be the only run of the day for the Bacon, as Kyle tossed 5 innings without allowing an earned run and striking out 7.

So the Bananas in total played 8 innings and scored 19 runs. Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good! The Nanners now have a 3-1 lead in the Breakfast Bowl as they return home for game 5 on Friday night. Pregame will start at 6:30 on Bananas Insiders and first pitch will be at 7:00! Be there or be square my dear friends.
