Savannah Bananas Sign Three From Texas A&M

SAVANNAH, GA. May 17, 2016 – The Savannah Bananas are excited to announce the signing of three players from Texas A&M. Current student-athletes Nick Choruby and Dayne Sommer and high school commit Braden Shewmake have signed contracts for the 2016 season.

Nick Choruby is a 6’0” infielder from Portland, Oregon. He is batting .325 with 13 stolen bases while starting in Centerfield for the Aggies.  Choruby played for Coach West in the summer of 2015 for the Martinsville Mustangs in the Coastal Plain League and batted .299 with 19 stolen bases.

“Nick will have a successful summer for us after having a great year for the Aggies. Nick’s speed is one of his best tools as a 6.5/60 runner. He will be a tough out for us at the top of our line-up, and is a threat to steal any base in any situation,” said Coach Sean West.

Dayne Sommer is a 6’1” catcher from Fort Worth, TX. Sommer played at Northeast Texas Community College in the 2015 season, where he batted a .320 and appeared in 38 games.

Coach West said the following about Sommer, “Dayne is a very strong and athletic kid, we expect him to have a great summer for us before returning to College Station.”

Braden Shewmake, a shortstop, is one of the top high school prospects in the nation. He currently plays for Wylie East High School in Texas and has committed to Texas A&M. His sophomore year he was named the District 13-4A Offensive Player of the Year. In 2015 he was named All-District 10-4A at shortstop.

“Braden is a senior in HS who committed to Coach Childress at A&M when he was a junior. Braden is a left handed hitting MI who is athletic enough to play any position on the field. After talking with numerous scouts and cross checkers, Braden is anticipated as a top 5/10 round draft pick this coming summer,” said West. “Braden will report to Savannah after his HS graduation, and has pre-draft work outs scheduled with the Yankees, Astros, Dodgers, Rays, Indians, and Brewers.”
