Our Vision

To entertain one billion fans by delivering the most fans first and entertaining experience in the world. To do that, we create one-of-a-kind experiences for our live shows and produce outrageous amounts of content from those shows to entertain our worldwide digital audience 24/7/365.

The Media Relations Coordinator will have the opportunity to impact millions of fans through the content they produce both on our broadcast and social media, as well as the stories they help media outlets create.

This person is obsessed with every aspect of storytelling, content production, and being an on-air personality. Additionally, this person must be fully in-tune with the brand of Banana Ball. They always bring new ideas to the table and are constantly experimenting with new ways to continue growing our brand and spreading the word of Banana Ball.

The Role

As a key player on our creative team, this person will aid Banana Ball and the specific teams in their mission to Make Baseball Fun by being an on-air personality, creating content, and developing relationships with media to create stories.

At a glance, here’s what you can expect from this role:

  • 70% Content Producer, Storyteller, and On-Air Personality
    • Content Producer – You will be expected to produce multiple pieces of content on each game day and throughout the week. These content pieces should contribute heavily to growing the brand of Banana Ball and be useable for both the broadcast and social media.
    • Storyteller – You will be expected to identify and document unique stories rippling from Banana Ball to share organically through our in-house outlets as well as external media outlets. This person will be prolific with their news stories.

    • Help coach and prepare players, coaches, and other team representatives for giving interviews and interacting with media personalities.
  • 100% Fans First Evangelist
    • This person ensures that teammate & media relationships, strategies and technologies implemented continue to put Fans Firsts and enhance our Fan Experience.

Why is this job not for everyone?
      • We have a small budget and a small content creation team.
      • We don’t have the fanciest gadgets and gizmos. We will invest in them over time as we grow, but don’t expect a spending spree.
      • We will expect and push for an extremely high standard of content creation, production, and execution and expect someone that is hungry to learn, get better, and take constructive feedback. We are extremely picky on what content we want to see produced and posted. You will have your ideas shot down time and time again. This can be frustrating.
      • You are going to be micro-led like crazy until you’ve earned trust. You’ll work directly with Jesse Cole and Kara Heater who lead creative content.
      • The job is demanding. Our fans want to be with us 24/7/365. It is our job to provide them with the most up to date content to satisfy that demand.
      • We move quickly. We don’t have weeks on end to come up with ideas, film the content, edit and post. We have days, sometimes hours, to create high quality content and you must be okay with last-minute adjustments and changes.
Because of the challenges with this job, here are the Expectations:

  • You will be given more freedom in decision making as you earn your stripes and understanding of this business and organization. It’s going to take time to learn the ropes. The more you learn and the faster you learn, the more freedom that is earned.
  • You will be judged by the amount and quality of your ideas as well as the execution of those high-quality ideas. Creative decisions in the beginning will mostly be made by Jesse Cole and Kara Heater.
  • We must outthink and not outspend. We will not invest heavily in things that don’t make a clear and dramatic impact.
  • Be resourceful – Use your resources and skills to develop ideas and content that make a dramatic impact for our brand.
  • We must grow faster and learn faster than most people.  Our personal growth has to outmatch the growth of our business. Growing and learning are paramount to leading and inspiring a team of people.
  • You will meet regularly with the creative team to review goals, objectives, priorities, and results of your work and the department’s work. Decisions will be made together
Key Responsibilities:

Become an On-Air Personality and Content Creator

  • Identify multi-layered stories to maximize attention, Make Baseball Fun, and grow the game of Banana Ball.
    • These stories should be able to be used on our broadcast, our social media, or given to media to amplify.
  • Contribute ideas for new content and execute the creation of content ideas brought by other members of the team.
    • Ideas get harder as the years go by because media has “covered our story already”. You’ll need to generate, share, and pitch creative ideas that get additional media to our events.
    • This includes staying up to date on trends on social media platforms and pop culture references.
  • Organize shooting plan for each piece of digital content you will create. You’ll work closely with the rest of our Creative Team to properly plan and execute every moment conveying the digital vision without hindering the live experience. You’ll be a key person in ensuring all people involved are on the same page.
    • This includes proficiency in videography, on air appearances, and editing in both a pre-production and post-production standpoint.

Facilitate a Fans First Experience for Media

  • Demonstrate excellence in media relations and give a Fans First Experience to all media we engage with.
    • Each person we engage with should become a FAN of our organization, mission, and vision.
    • Media members should leave saying “I’ve never had that much FUN covering a story.”
  • Strategically connect and coordinate timelines and availability for media interactions with the right people from our organization.
    • Which interview requests for Jesse warrant his time and attention versus Jared’s versus, Biko’s versus, Gillum, etc.
    • Respond in a timely manner to all requests – whether a yes, no, or not right now answer.
  • Coach players, coaches, and other key Banana Ball representatives through mock interviews and common courtesies/practices of the media industry.
    • How can we make sure our people are fully prepared for interactions with media personnel?
  • Distribute and amplify the content our team creates to the media.
    • Find the hidden gem stories behind our players and why they’re important in the city we’re in. Multiply the distribution to the people and places that care about that story from previous areas of their lives. (Example: Sean Fluke worked as an elevator repair man at Raymond James Stadium ten years ago and now we’re playing there.)
    • Ensure media coming to our games have been fully prepped on all things Banana Ball – starting lineup, headshots, key stats, Banana Ball rules, etc. They should be prepared to know what to look for whether that be Ryan Cox’s 100th trick play or Jake Skole’s 200th career hit.

What’s needed:

  • Experience in shooting and editing video. Strong understanding in camera equipment, shooting styles and lingo. Adobe Premiere and Photoshop (or similar editing software) proficiency required.
  • Experience and confidence interviewing others and creating stories to share as an on-air personality on camera.
  • Expertise in the nuances of the media and news industry.
  • An obsession with building the greatest content for our fans – constantly working on the craft, developing yourself, and the people around you.
  • Someone who moves confidently with clear decision making – we learn most from doing. We must have a bias for action and not paralysis by analysis.

The Media Relations Coordinator will Always Be Caring, Different, Enthusiastic, Fun, Growing, and Hungry.
