Bananas Burn the Bacon 6-4 to Remain Unbeaten

Written by Biko Skalla:

The Nanners came out on top in their second battle of the summer against the Bacon, as they topped their cross-state rivals 6-4.

It was the fourth game of the summer for the fellas, and for the fourth time in a row it was Drew, How Does That Black Eyed Peas Song Go?, Yniesta, getting the first hit of the game for the Bananas. He doubled to right on the first pitch of the game but would be stranded there as Austin, Let This be the End of My Appearance in Your Article, Emener, worked out of trouble.

Jared, The True Split King, Donalson, gave up a single in the first but struck out the side to hold serve.

With one out in the second Brody, All Aboard the Barrel Train, Wortham, stroked a double down the left field line. Landry, Choo Choo, Mead, followed that up with a single to right and Caden, Is it too Late to Hop on?, Green, smoked a ball to short for a fielder’s choice that brought home Wortham. Then Ty, Next Stop, Pound Town!, Jackson, bombed a double to right-center bringing in Green to make it 2-0 Nanner’s.

Donalson worked around a walk in the bottom half and picked up two more K’s to keep the Bacon at bay.

In the top of the third, Indiana, And the Temple of Boom, Stanley, blasted a double off the left field wall, Nick, I Will not be Repeating as CPL Hitter of the Night, Clarno and Dylan, The Waimanalo Walker, Kurahashi-Choy Foo, both took free passes to load the bases. Brody Wortham barreled another ball to left to bring in Indy and Clarno and give the Nanners a 4-0 lead.

The Bacon scratched a run across in the bottom half with a walk, sac bunt, and single as Donalson picked up his sixth strikeout of the night.

In the top of the fourth, Peanut and Ty both singled and Drew brought them in with a laser beam double off the right-center field wall to extend the Bananas lead to 6-1.

Donalson would then finish his night with a scoreless bottom half of the frame, picking up his seventh strikeout of the game along the way and bringing his season total to just one run scored over seven innings of work.

The Bacon would pickup an unearned run off Bobby, Anti-Barrells, McBride, in the 5th, and then two of the earned variety in the 6th. The latter two came in as the Bacon stringed a single, hit batter, a Bananas mental error in the infield (the key word being mental there or else one of these runs would be unearned too), and a bases loaded walk together to push a run across. Nick, The King of Queen City, Foray, came in and walked another run in that would be charged to Bobby, but then proceeded to retire the next eight batters he faced, striking out five of them.

That got the Nanners to the bottom of the 9th with a 6-4 lead, as Tyler, Phony Hawk, Gillum, and Corey, Bro, Pye, called to the arm barn for Blake, That’s Money Dude, McGehee. Three batters later the ballgame was over, Blake had two saves for the summer in as many chances, and the Bananas improved to 4-0.

Jared Donalson improved to 2-0, Brody Wortham went 3-5 with a double and two RBI’s, and Drew Yniesta went 2-5 with two doubles while driving in his 6th and 7th runs of the season, tying him for the league lead.

The guys return to the friendly confines of Historic Grayson Stadium for round three against the Bacon tomorrow (tonight) night. Pregame will kickoff at 6:00pm eastern and first pitch will be at 7:00pm eastern. The Bananas are 4/11th’s of the way to their franchise record start last summer, we’ll see if they can remain undefeated in 18 hours (as of this articles release to the world).

Also shoutout the legendary duo of Adam, FlexPro Grip Might Solve all our World’s Problems, Moreau and Jared Donalson for assistance with our nicknames this evening!
