Bananas Destroy the Bacon… Again

Written by Biko Skalla:

It’s getting awfully silly at this point, as the Nanners once again pummeled the Bacon, this time by a score of 11-1 to improve to 26-3 on the season. The Bananas have outscored Macon 51-4 over the last four games, which have gone 12-0, 19-3, 9-0, 11-1. It’s insanity that the closest the Bacon have come to winning any of these games was losing 9-0. Man I would not want to be in their shoes! Anyhow, let’s get t0 how the boys pounded the Bacon once again, but first a disclaimer from the author. Some important people in the world have voiced their concerns to me that my nicknames have gotten slightly out of hand, so bear with me as I try to reel myself in here this evening.

The game was pegged to be a pitchers duel, with Macon’s starter Fred Wilson throwing 7 dazzling shutout innings against the Bananas the only other time he had faced them. The Nanners opposed him with the CPL strikeouts leader, as well as the man in 3rd place in the league with his 1.45 ERA coming into the game, Joe, Schmo, Miller. Joe held up his end of the bargain, allowing only 1 hit and 1 walk over 5 innings of 10 strikeout ball.

“I felt really good and Nick called a tremendous game back there,” Joe said. “We were going after guys all night, and the strikeouts just happened to come with that. All I’ve gotta say is good luck striking out 12 tomorrow Kyle, and Ryan you’ll never come close to catching me.”

Fred held strong until the 3rd inning when Bill, The Thrill, Knight, worked a leadoff walk and swiped 2nd base setting up Ty, Too-Fly, Jackson, to knock him in with a line drive single to left. Ty stole 2nd and 3rd, and Messy Jesse Sherrill then stole 2nd himself, and when the throw went down to 2nd Ty decided to complete the trifecta and steal home. Jesse got to 3rd on a wild pitch and Eduardo, Mashes Balls, Malinowski, brought home Sherrill with a grounder to short.

The Nanners took the 3-0 lead into the 4th, when Bill singled and Carson, “Fore!”, Falsken, sent a 2-run bomb to left for his first Bananas home run in just his 3rd game of the summer.

“I mean I swung at a pitch in my eyes so I thought he was gonna go down with the next one,” Carson said, “and I don’t know what it was, maybe a change up, but I was just trynna get bat on ball with 2 strikes and it just happened to be good bat on ball.”

The onslaught continued in the 5th, as Danny, OH YEAH, Oberst, reached on an error and then stole 2nd and 3rd (I know, you’ve heard this story before), and then scored on a Bryson, Barrels Only, Bloomer, infield single. Bryson was pushed home as Bill, Carson, and Ty all walked to force in the team’s 7th run. Jesse slapped a single through the left side to bring home Bill and Carson, as the game truly became another laugher.

Jared, Big Boi, Beck, came in for the 6th inning and gave up only his 3rd run of the summer on a highly questionable balk call. The boys on offense obviously had to fire back with some insurance in the top of the 7th, as Ty scored Clarno on a single to right and Jesse brought home Carson with a double down the left field line. Dylan, Dr. Shutdown, Cunningham, threw a perfect 7th and Davis, Nurse No-Hits, Hare, threw a perfect 8th. Christian, Fire Feet, Dearman, walked the first man in the 9th and then got the next 3 Bacon hitters in order to lock up the 11-1 victory.

It was business as usual for the fellas, with Ty leading the way offensively going 3-4, with a double, a walk, 3 RBI, a run scored, and 3 steals. Carson had a big night too, going 1-2 with the 2-run homer, 3 runs scored, 2 walks and got plunked by a pitch. Bill Knight was all over the place as well, going 2-3, with 2 walks, 3 runs scored, and 2 stolen bases. Last but not least, Jesse Sherrill went 2-5 with a double, a walk, 3 RBI’s, a run scored, and a steal. Another decent evening for the guys.

So anyhow, the Nanners are back in action tomorrow as the RedWolves come down from Florence for a little Saturday night baseball. The pregame will start at 6:30 eastern and first pitch will be at 7:00. The Nanners will try to get their second 10 game winning streak of the summer with the Hometown Hero, Kyle Luigs, on the bump!
