Working with the Bananas

Working with the Savannah Bananas is fun, challenging, and exciting. We have a team of extremely talented and positive people who are committed and energized by our mission. When it comes to the Bananas, they live and breathe “Fans First, Entertain Always.”

The Fans First way guides our team and our teammates to embody being caring, different, enthusiastic, fun, growing, and hungry. Everyone shows personal and professional growth and they are constantly serving and impacting others. We’ve built an All-Star team of the best creators, performers, and doers in business. We constantly bring on people who contribute to the atmosphere of intelligence, passion, and fun! The team is obsessed with challenging the status quo and finding a better way to do almost everything for our fans.

Our Vision

As the most electric and fun teams in sports, the culture and skills of the people who work for us need to drive the innovative experiences we create for fans.

As we continue to make an impact around the world, we continue to attract more talent. Each person brought on is hired with a specific role and goal in mind. They pass an intense hiring process and by the end of it, our current team cannot picture their department without this new person’s skills and personality – only then is someone invited into the family. Everyone on staff, regardless of position, is an A-player who raises the bar.

The person that steps into this role must be energized by process-driven tasks and projects. They will be relied on to build and execute processes that can scale as our company grows. Additionally, this person must understand the importance of their role in providing Fans First Experience to anyone engaging with a Banana Ball brand.

This person will be expected to clearly communicate with a variety of teammates and prospective teammates. They must also be able to work harmoniously with all other members of their department and the other key relationships on the team.

Why is this job not for everyone?
      • We will expect and push for an extremely high standard of execution and expect someone that is hungry to learn, get better and take constructive feedback.
      • At a company that is well-known and has well-known characters, this position is backstage to the ‘glamor and spotlight’ but that doesn’t mean it isn’t extremely important.
      • We are building the plane as we are flying it. We’ve experienced rapid growth over the past two years and are continuing to grow at an exceptionally fast rate. Some of the processes we currently have in place may not be best-practice for what we will need in the future.
      • The job is demanding. Our growth is rapid and our expectations for serving fans and teammates continue to increase. We often work night/weekend hours to ensure that we’re meeting these expectations for them. In this position, you may not be working during those times, but you will likely receive communications from teammates outside of a typical Monday – Friday 9 am to 5 pm.
      • Working with people can get messy. You must remain calm and work to find an immediate solution as well as a future Upstream solution.
      • You will have access to sensitive information and will need to use discretion and discernment in how or when you access it, if necessary.
      • You are going to be micro-led like crazy until trust is earned. You’ll work directly with our People and Culture team.
      • You will receive feedback in the form of critique, opportunity for improvement and praise – however, it is not guaranteed to be weighted in a specific amount.
Because of the challenges with this job, here are the Expectations:

You will be given more responsibility as you earn your stripes and understanding of this business and organization. It’s going to take time to learn the ropes. The more you learn and the faster you learn, the more that responsibility is earned.

You will be evaluated on your performance by both your direct leaders and your peers. You will also be evaluated by how well your actions and behaviors align with our organizational culture.

We must have efficient processes that highlight the values and standards of excellence we expect to see from our teammates. In a role where teammates will have interactions with you in the earliest stages of their employment, it’s imperative that these interactions with you and our internal processes must be reflective of this standard of excellence and should set the tone for the experience that they will have while working here.

You must show patience and kindness in interactions with other teammates – especially when you’ve just been asked “can you fix my timecard” for the 15th time that week.

We must grow faster and learn faster than most people. Our personal growth must outpace the growth of our business. Growing and learning are paramount to leading and making an impact in our organization.

You will meet regularly with our team to review goals, objectives, priorities, and results of your work and the department’s work. Decisions will be made together.

What’s needed:
      • Someone of high character and integrity. You will have many key relationships that need to be developed on the basis of trust and care. You will also be privy to personal and sensitive information and must be able to handle delicate situations and conversations maturely and respectfully.
      • 3-4 years of multi-state payroll experience.
      • Familiarity with payroll systems such as Paycom, ADP, Paycor, or Gusto.
      • Impeccable attention to detail. “The thing that’s going to make Disneyland unique and different is the detail, if we lose the detail, we lose it all.” – Walt Disney
      • The ability to focus and prioritize the most important things and eliminate distractions. It’s easy to get wooed or pulled into a variety of different lanes. There are a million little ‘good things’ we can be doing but knowing the highest and best use of our time and leverage is critical. Good is the enemy of Great.
      • An obsession with learning from outside the organization and our industry – we can only grow as fast as we can learn best practices and innovative techniques.
      • Deep and genuine care for others and the ability to find joy in making life easier for others.
Bonus Points:
      • You’ve working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
      • You have prior experience with benefit administration.
      • You have prior experience with Paycom.
      • You’re certified (CPP, FPC, SHRM-CP, PHR) or working toward it.
      • You’ve made someone smile while explaining a 401(k).
      • You bring energy and creativity to tasks others find boring.
Key Responsibilities:
      • Payroll Processing
        • Like it’s clockwork – Prepare and process payroll on a regular schedule (semi-monthly), accurately and drama-free.
        • Crunch the numbers – Calculate wages, overtime, bonuses, and other types of pay.
        • Uncle Sam’s bestie – Ensure accurate tax withholdings (federal, state, local, Social Security, Medicare).
      • Benefit Administration
        • Champion enrollment – Coordinate employee enrollment in benefits programs (health, dental, vision, retirement plans).
        • Track and verify eligibility for benefits based on employment status and tenure.
        • Provide information during onboarding, open enrollment, and life event changes (e.g., marriage, birth).
      • Data Management
        • Prioritize accuracy – Maintain and update payroll records including new hires, terminations, promotions, and salary changes.
        • Keep it organized – Audit timekeeping systems and employee hours worked.
        • Get the magnifying glass out – Investigate and resolve payroll errors in a timely manner.
      • Compliance
        • Compliance is key – Ensure payroll practices and benefit offerings comply with federal and state labor laws (e.g., FLSA, IRS regulations, ACA, COBRA).
        • Your lips are sealed – Maintain confidentiality of employee payroll data.
        • Uncle Sam here again – File and submit required tax documents and forms (W-2, W-4, 1099, etc.).
        • Life-long learner – Stay abreast of changes to tax and labor laws.
      • Communication
        • Master calendar keeper – Work with department leads and timecard approvers to communicate important dates for pay periods ending, timecard approvals and what events are paid on each check in advance.
        • Calm, cool and collected – Respond to employee inquiries related to pay discrepancies or paycheck issues and serve as the point of contact for employee benefits questions.
        • Represent the team – liaise with benefit providers and brokers and oversee billing, reconciliation and invoice approvals with benefit vendors.
      • Reporting
        • Gather the data – Prepare and distribute payroll reports for internal use and external audits, including reports such as 1095-C.
        • What happened? – Assist with year-end reporting and reconciliation.
