The Savannah Bananas are excited to announce that seven Bananas were selected for the First All-CPL Team and six Bananas were selected for the Second All-CPL Team.
Making the First All CPL-Team was 2021 CPL Pitcher of the Year and strikeout king, Joe Miller (LHP). Miller picked up 71 Ks during his 10 appearances and led the league in most strikeouts.
These Bananas left-handed throwers were also selected for First Team – Ryan Kennedy, Dylan Cunningham, and Andrew Armstrong.
In his third year as a Banana, Kennedy boasted a 0.73 ERA (the leader in the league). Dylan Cunningham shut it down as the closer for the Bananas with four saves and 33 strikeouts. He also pitched the final inning of the Championship Game. Andrew Armstrong, aka the Pickoff Assassin, had a 0.84 ERA in his 21 innings pitched.
Position players selected for the First All CPL-Team were Dan Oberst (1B), Livan Reinoso (3B), and Bryson Bloomer (DH/UTL).
Oberst, a three-year Banana, finished his final season as a Banana with a .333 batting average, 25 stolen bases, and 32 RBI. Livan Reinoso made an impact in his first year in BananaLand. Batting .362, Reinoso had 37 RBI, 50 hits, and 30 runs scored. Bryson Bloomer was a menace at the plate this summer with 6 homeruns, 20 doubles, and 32 RBI. Bloomer was also named CPL Player of the Week in Week 8.
The Second All-CPL Team features six Bananas in the lineup.
The pitchers making the Second Team are Jared Beck (LHP), Nathan Dettmer (RHP), and Kyle Luigs (RHP).
Jared Beck finished with a 1.05 ERA and struck out 38 batters in his 25 innings pitched. In his eight appearances, Dettmer struck out 24 and helped secure six wins for the Nanners. Four-year Banana, Kyle Luigs was named CPL Pitcher of the Week in Week 2. Luigs pitched eight games with five wins and 50 K’s.
Position players selected for the Second All-CPL Team were Bill LeRoy (C), Jesse Sherrill (SS), and Ty Jackson (OF).
Catcher and four-year Banana, Bill LeRoy was a wall behind the plate for the Nanners in his last CPL season. He had zero errors behind the plate and had 25 hits and 19 RBI at the plate. Jesse Sherrill batted .353 with 14 stolen bases and 30 singles on the summer. Outfielder, Ty Jackson, tapped in all season with .318 average, 26 runs, and 34 hits.
The 2021 CPL season was nothing short of phenomenal for the Bananas. The team finished 40-10 and won the CPL Petitt Cup Championship while leading the league in many statistics including ERA, strikeouts, stolen bases, and more.
